Lorene Finney

January 13, 1923 — April 29, 2018

Finney Jonesville-  Mrs. Metta Lorene Finney, 95, of Center Road passed away peacefully Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin.  She was born January 13, 1923 in Wilkes County to the late Banner and Annie Hemric Billings.  Mrs. Finney was retired from Chatham Manufacturing with over 30 years of service.  She was a dedicated member of Fall Creek Baptist Church where she served the church faithfully on several committees including Church Secretary and her favorite the Hospitality Committtee.  She loved helping with the meals for others, and was known for her wonderful pickles, fresh apple cake, and green beans.  Mrs. Finney loved sports and enjoyed watching basketball during the March Madness time of year.  She was an avid Rook player, loved watching games including Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.  Mrs. Finney was the matriarch and role model for all of her family.   In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Finney; her daughter-in-law, Judy Finney; sister, Virginia B. Finney and her husband, J.D.; her brothers, James, Dwight, Rex, Harvey, Zeno Billings; and her step-mother, Ethel Combs Billings.  Surviving are her 2 sons, Jerry Finney, Hickory; Gale Finney and wife, Judy, of Boonville; she was a special grandmother and MeMaw to her grandchildren, Amber (Chris) Cordell, Jay Finney, Chelsa Finney, Beth Finney, Angie (Brock) Walker; great-grandchildren, Dr. Christopher Cordell, Amy (Andy) Wardyn, Alden Fish, Laken & Gracyn Walker; sisters, Carolyn (Ralph) Nixon, Louise (Gary) Hoots; an aunt, Bonnie Atkins; and several nieces, nephews, and friends including her special friend, Thelma Davis.  The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 PM Wednesday at Fall Creek Baptist Church.  Her funeral service will follow the visitation in the church at 3:00 PM Wednesday with Rev. Don Hudson officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her beloved Fall Creek Baptist Church Family, SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, Mountain Valley Hospice, and the Physicians and nurses of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for all the loving care given to her.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Fall Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, Fall Creek Church Road, Jonesville, NC  28642 or to the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, 243 West Lee Ave., Yadkinville, NC  27055.  Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneralservice.com.  Gentry Family Funeral Service of Jonesville is serving the Finney Family.
