Minnie Bates Vestal

Minnie Bates Vestal, 78, of Yadkinville, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Yadkin Nursing Center. She was born in Yadkin County, NC on June 11, 1940; daughter of the late Roy Edgar Bates and Rhoda Casstevens Bates. Minnie was a member of Gospel Chapel Church and worked many years as a seamstress at Blackwelder MFG. in Mocksville and at Elkin Valley Apparel in Elkin. She was a self-taught pianist and loved going thru out the region playing her gospel music for everyone and loved her farming. A celebration of life service will be conducted on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:00 a m at the graveside at Gospel Chapel Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Bates officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church Hall. Survivors include her three children, Gina Swaim Newell (Mike), DeLana Fabian (Artemio) and David Vestal (Melinda); two step-children, Odell Vestal (Linda) and Linda Cockerham (Dennis); grandchildren, Chaffin Newell, Michaela Newell, Hannah Newell, Joseph Fabian, Scotty Cockerham, Kevin Cockerham, Amber Melton, Andrew Vestal and Archer Newell and several great grandchildren and a brother; Gray Bates. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Homer Cloys Swaim, her 2nd husband, Leonard David Vestal; three brothers, Willie, Cleo and Harvey Bates and a sister, Lucille Campbell. In lieu of flowers; memorials may be made to Yadkin County Rescue Squad Auxiliary, PO Box 5, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
