Mitchell Montgomery Casstevens

Casstevens Boonville- Mitchell Montgomery Casstevens, a longtime resident of Lime Rock Road, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center at the age of 87. Mr. Casstevens was born in Yadkin County, NC to the late Thomas David and Bessie Ida Caudle Casstevens. He graduated from Boonville High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Casstevens retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 25 years of service. Prior to working at RJR, he worked for Hanes Hosiery for 13 years. He enjoyed playing softball in his younger days, enjoyed his beach home where he enjoyed fishing and friends, and enjoyed golfing, especially beach golfing trips with his church friends. He was a member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church for greater than 60 years, having served as a deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Casstevens Sizemore Pinnix and Ruby Casstevens Oaks; five brothers, Charlie, Donald, Fred, George, and Roy Casstevens. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Cora Lee Crissman Casstevens of the home, a brother Frank Casstevens of Advance, NC, his foster daughter, Pamela Hobson (John) Boehme of Winston-Salem, foster grandsons, Austin (Lara) Boehme of Asheville and Hunter Boehme of Columba, S.C., his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, February 22, 2019 from 10-11 AM in the sanctuary at Richmond Hill Baptist Church followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM  with Rev. Will Hamric and Rev. Justin Crouse officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Yadkin V.F.W. Post 10346 and the NC Army National Guard Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Richmond Hill Baptist Church Youth Group and the Building Fund, 2205 Richmond Hill Church Road, Boonville, NC 27011.
