Nancy Permelia Smitherman York

Nancy Smitherman York, 88, of Yadkinville passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2025, in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born January 17, 1937, to the late David Ambrose and Mollie Hobson Smitherman. Nancy graduated from East Bend High School and attended Draughon’s Business College in Winston-Salem. On August 3, 1960, Nancy married Charlie Frank Eugene “Gene” York. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Robert Mayo (Faye) Smitherman of East Bend and her sister Nell Smitherman (Howard) Brown of East Bend. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Nancy was very active in the lives of her family and spent considerable time with her daughters and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her two daughters; Dr. Sherry York (John) Harrison of Austin, TX and Tonya York (David) Wall of East Bend, NC; and by her grandchildren John York (Grace) Harrison and Sarah Elizabeth Harrison (Benjamin) Kercheval of Bastrop, TX, Davis Eugene (Hannah) Wall of Pinnacle, NC, and Austin Robert Wall (Autumn Lawson, fiancé) of Boonville, NC; as well as family and friends. Memorial services for Mrs. York will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Huntsville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church at 2:00 p.m. with the service to follow at 2:30 p.m.
