EAST BEND - Mrs. Nora “Nody” Spillman Brown, 90, of Tyra Road passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at her home. Nora was born May 26, 1934 in Forsyth County to the late Neal Gray Spillman and Minnie Gough Spillman. Mrs. Brown was a faithful member of Forbush Friends Meeting where she served and attended as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Hassel Carroll Brown, Sr.; by her sisters, Bertha Spillman, Frances (Howard) Smith, Kathleen Spillman, Dorothy (Joe) Cash, Laura (Bud) Binkley; her brothers, Dayton (Mae) Spillman, Thomas (Stella) Spillman, John (Martha) Spillman; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Wade Scott; and most recently by her brother-in-law, Dayton Brown; nephews, Jimmy (Bet) Spillman, David Spillman; and nieces, Helen (Sach) White, Susan (Russell) Wright, and Jeanna Brown. Surviving are her sons, Hassel C. (Tammy) Brown, Jr., Steven Neal (Kelly) Brown; her daughter, Melinda (Jerry) Hawks; her grandchildren, Ashley (Jake) Lubel of Wiltton, CT., Courtney (David) Rowland of Winston-Salem, NC, Hassel Carroll “Trey” Brown, III of East Bend, Cody Brown of Boonville, Emily (Taylor) Warren of Kings Mountain, Bethany (Caleb) Duvall of Hampstead, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Lena, Jack and Worth Lubel, Gatlin and Griffith Warren, Sterling Rowland, and Ryker Brown; a sister-in-law, Sandra Brown; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to caregiver, Sherry Poindexter, who cared for our mother over the past 8 years, and also to caregiver, Angela Bell. A graveside service will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 4th, 2024 at Forbush Friends Meeting Cemetery by Pastor Mitchell See. The family will be available to receive friends after the graveside service in the Fellowship Life Center of Forbush Friends Meeting. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Jeanna Brown Scholarship Fund, 751 West 4th Street, Suite 200, Winston-Salem, NC 27101; or Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or Forbush Friends Cemetery Fund, PO Box 27, East Bend, NC 27018.
