Norma Jean Minick Lowder

Elkin Mrs. Norma Jean Minick Lowder, 85, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at SECU Hospice Home of Yadkin. Mrs. Lowder was born August 8, 1933 in Surry County to Earl and Sarah Rose Minick. She was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church for over 50 years where she served as the church clerk for many years. She also served as a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Lowder loved the Lord and was a faithful church member. She received her degree in business from Wingate College and worked as a secretary at the Starmount Driving Range and later at Starmount High School. She taught sewing classed through Surry Comm. College for over 20 years. The 1981 Starmount High School Yearbook was dedicated to Mrs. Lowder for the help she had given to create it. She loved helping others and was an awesome cook which was appreciated by her hungry husband and 3 growing boys. Mrs. Lowder always loved and supported her husband and boys in everything they were involved with. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lowder was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edgar Reid Lowder; a son, Ricky Edgar Lowder; and three sisters, Mary Trexler, Irene Dezern, and Jo Westmoreland. She is survived by two sons, Rodney Lowder & wife Bethany and Randy Lowder & wife Emily; grandchildren, Miranda Lowder, Gabriel Lowder & fiancée Lauren Alcorn, Derrick Lowder, Diana Best & husband Josh, and Ben & Chloe Osborne; and great grandchildren, Ashton Rhymer, Jocelyn, Grayson, Carson, & Logan Best. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Sunday December 16, 2018 at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Dr. Joey Tomlin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM, prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 267 Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hugh Chatham Hospital and Mtn. Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Mrs. Lowder.
