Oscar Marvin Holcomb

Holcomb Boonville – Oscar Marvin Holcomb, 96, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018. He was born July 14, 1922 in Yadkin County to the late Marvin Peeler Holcomb and Della Calloway Holcomb.  Oscar was a 55+ year adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America, serving in many areas in locally, district, and even a stint as a member of the Cook Crew at a National Jamboree. He took great pride in the scouts he mentored, and by example, he earned the Woodbadge, Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, and Silver Beaver awards given for adult achievement in Scouting.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lucy Reece, Mary Casstevens; brothers, Fletcher Holcomb, Santford Holcomb, Allen Holcomb.  Surviving are his wife of 76 years, Doris Haynes Holcomb; daughters, Carol (W.C.) Brown, Cathy (Pamela Shelton) Wagoner; grandchildren, Michael Brown, Amy (Jermiah) Beasley, Madelyn Anhui; great grandson, Maximus Beasley; sister, Edna Mae Caldwell, brother, Hugh (Janice) Holcomb; special cousins, Janet Brown, Peggy Reece; several nieces and nephews.  His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Mitchell’s Chapel United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Charles Turner.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery will full military honors by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  Memorials can be made to Mitchell’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 2410 Center Road, Boonville, NC  27011 or to SECU Hospice Center, 243 N.
