Hamptonville Perry Richard Wagoner, 79, passed away on December 18, 2022 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Perry was born to the late Richard David and Valena Groce Wagoner. He grew up in a farm family and learned how to work hard at a young age. In addition to farming most of his life, Perry was a long-haul trucker. He answered to the CB handle “Rubber Duck”, and made many friends on the road. In semi-retirement, he began teaching younger truck drivers through the SAGE Program at Surry Community College and loved telling other people how to drive. Perry loved anything that had an engine-cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, boats-and enjoyed taking a wreck of a car and bringing it back to life. One of his most valued possessions was a 1930 Ford “A” Model. He was only the second owner, having bought it 60+ years ago from the original owner. His grandchildren loved going for rides with him in the convertible. Perry was a faithful member of Longtown United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He sang in the choir, was a member of the United Methodist Men and looked forward to their monthly breakfasts, and was a trustee of the Longtown Cemetery. Perry was married to the former Karen Hobson for 54 years. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and just this year a precious great-grandchild joined the family. He and Karen doted on and traveled with their four-footed kiddo, Callie, who loved to play fetch with him and was the light of his life. In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by a sister, Avalene Wagoner Hayes, and a brother, Larry Wagoner. He is survived by his wife, daughters Amber (Gray) Harris and Leah (Mark) Williams, and a son, Landon (Michelle) Wagoner. His grandchildren are Drew (Jessica) Harris, Molly Harris, Victoria Williams, Rebecca Williams, and Holden Wagoner. His great-granddaughter is Oaklyn Harris. Karen’s sisters and their husbands also hold a special place in his heart. His brother, Gary (Kathy) Wagoner also survives him, along with his sister-in-law Nancy Welborn Wagoner and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Longtown United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Smith and Allen Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Longtown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Horizons Adult Day Service, PO Box 1969, Yadkinville, NC 27055 or Longtown Cemetery Fund, ℅ Lisa Reeves, 3426 Shaffner Road, Jonesville, NC 28642.
