Phil Douglas Long

Long Yadkinville -  Mr. Phil Douglas Long, 89, of Kennedy Street passed away peacefully Friday, May 10, 2019 at the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin.  He was born April 10, 1930 in Forsyth County to the late Phillip H. and Joyce Holcomb Long.  Mr. Long was a graduate of Yadkinville  High School Class of 1949, and a veteran of the US Air Force with 4 years of service.  He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, retired from Unifi Inc., worked in road construction and grading his entire life, enjoyed farming and the outdoors.  His greatest work and accomplishment was being the loving husband, father, grandfather to his family, and a great neighbor and friend to the community.   In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Long Davis Todd, his brother, Donald Gray Long; and nieces, Donna Mathis, Debbie Davis, Patricia Gentry.  Surviving are his beloved wife of almost 68 years, Marie Swaim Long, of the home; his sons, Dr. Gwynn Douglas Long, and wife, Liz Reynolds Long of Timberlake, NC; Kevin Gray Long and wife, Marquita Haire Long of Boonville; grandchildren, Christine Pavey, McKenzie Loflin, Johnny Loflin; sister, Nancy Long Gentry, Concord; and several nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  His funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday at Center United Methodist Church by Rev. Bill Foust , Rev. Rex Cranfill and Randy Holcomb.  He will lie in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin, 243 North Lee Ave., Yadkinville, NC  27055.  Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
