Phyllis Ann Lyles Collins, age 72, passed away January 17, 2022. Mrs. Collins was born January 23, 1949 in Surry County to Ray Lyles and Lula Wood Lyles. She was a devoted wife and loving mama and “Granny”. Granny worked hard all her life working in the family tobacco crops, summer gardens, and working a fulltime job. She loved to camp and ride the wagon with Pa and her grandchildren. Granny is best known for her canning skills and cooking Sunday dinner for her family and any visitor who was always welcome at her table. Granny loved to make cakes and the grandchildren’s favorites are Blackberry Wine Cake and “Baby Jesus Birthday Cake”. Phyllis was a seamstress for many years working at Bates Night Wear until the plant closed in 1990 and then Lucia until it closed in 1996. She went to school to get her CNA certificate and retired from Wilkes Regional Hospital as an In-Home Health Care provider in 2012. She not only cared for their clients but their families and made many lifetime friends. Granny is survived by her husband Charles Larry “Pa” Collins of 57 years. Daughter, Loretta and Ricky Williams and son Charles Collins. Granny’s most loved grandchildren, Hannah Williams Heath and Brad, Cody Collins, and Breanna, Luke Williams, Amy Collins Cardwell and Harley, and Logan Collins, and five great-grandchildren. Her brothers Phillip and Jean Lyles, Allen and Gayle Lyles, and sisters Deborah and Ricky Tilley, and Karen and Dennis Woodring. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son William Ray Collins, granddaughter Victoria Annette Collins, and sister Clara Lyles Darnell. A graveside service at will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Crestwood Memorial Gardens in State Road with Chaplin Mark Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 Special thank you to her loving brothers and sisters, sister-in-law’s, special cousins, and a very special neighbor who helped us take the best possible care of Granny.
