Retha Somers Durham

Mrs. Retha Ann Somers Durham, 87, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024. She was born July 31, 1937 in Wilkes County to the late John Somers and Ollie Williams Somers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Durham; son, Bradley Durham; two brothers, Dean Somers, Rev. Dwight Somers; two sisters, Alene Somers Johnson, Sybil Somers Thomason; and one great-grandchild, Breonna Bushey. Retha retired from Advance Auto with 30 years of service. She became a homemaker after retiring. Retha loved her church family at Union Baptist Church. She always looked forward to going on trips with the church group and her granddaughter Carrie. Also, she loved serving the Lord in any way she could. Retha enjoyed sewing, cooking, and watching birds outside. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory include her son Marty Durham, three granddaughters, Kasey Gentry, Kristin (Justin) Bushey, Carrie (Garrett) Durham Robinette; great-grandchildren, Ian Gentry, Bentley Bushey, Bella Bushey, Bronx Bushey, Balyze Bushey, Boaz Bushey, Brightlyn Bushey, and Hayden Durham; and special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Union Baptist Church in Hamptonville. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kenny Pardue and Rev. Justin Bushey officiating. Burial will follow church cemetery. The family would like to say a very special thank you to the staff of the Iredell Hospice Staff, especially social worker Joann, nurse Katrina, and cna Cassie for the loving care given to Retha and her family.
