Rev. Lee Roy Turner, 91, passed away Monday August 13, 2018 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born October 1, 1926 in Wilkes County to the late Rev. Wiley E. and Julia Hayes Turner. Mr. Turner served in the US Army at the end of World War II. He was the Pastor of East Elkin Baptist Church for several years. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elouise Crews Turner; son Dennis Turner; sister Ethel Gilleland; brothers Edgar Turner, Frank Turner, Thurmond Turner, Commie Turner, Carl Turner and Marvin Turner; grandson Jeff Gilley. Surviving are his children Glenda (Richard) Mitchell, Ronnie Turner, Danny Turner, Teresa Turner; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother Vernon Turner. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday August 15, 2018 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday August 16, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church in Hamptonville by Rev. Bert Mathis. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors by the NC National Guard Honor Guard and the VFW Post 10346.
