RG Mathis

Ronda Mr. RG Mathis, 83, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019 at SECU Hospice Home of Yadkin. Mr. Mathis was born December 30, 1935 in Wilkes County to Garland and Vertie Macy Mathis. He was a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Mathis enjoyed working newspaper puzzles and tobacco farming. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by two sisters, Lib Groce and Rose Collins; and one brother, Tony Mathis. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Elizabeth Holbrook Mathis; two children, Jeff Mathis and Kim Mathis; one step daughter, Ramona (Marty) Hemric; grandchildren, Aaron Ball, Kaitlin Hemric, Jordan (Bradley) Pilcher, and Hillary (Matt) Young; a great grandchild, Preston Graham; one sister, Joann Brown; two brothers, Ray (Dorry) Mathis and Rex Mathis; sister-in-law, Brenda Mathis; brothers-in-law, Roger Groce and Larry Collins; several nieces and nephews; and a special K-9 companion, Bingo. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Sunday, August 16, 2019 at Swan Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hugh Chatham Pulmonary Rehab 180 Parkwood Drive Elkin, NC 28621.
