Mr. Richard Lloyd Miller, 71, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at his home. Mr. Miller was born March 24, 1949 in Winston-Salem to the late Woodrow and Lucille Hauser Miller. He graduated with the last class of Yadkinville High school in 1967; while in high school Richard served as the Chief Page in the state capital. After graduation he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then received his Master’s degree from the University of Southern Illinois. Richard lived in Washington, D.C. and worked for the U.S. Department of Transportation as well as the U.S. Department of Treasury where he worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as an attaché for the U.S. Government. Mr. Miller eventually returned to Yadkin County and was elected to serve as a County Commissioner. Mr. Miller returned to Washington, D.C. and worked for the NTSB and later assisted in several political campaigns before retiring in 2006. He is survived by his husband Edward Ruark; his daughter, Elizabeth Miller; cousins Charles Dinkins, Ann Dinkins Park, Gray Hauser, Dale Hauser; and other family members; a caregiver Bridget Billips and his cat Moe. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville. You may pay your respects from 2:00-3:00 prior to the service at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville, which is serving the Miller family.
