Richard Alvin Sheets

Yadkinville Mr. Richard Alvin Sheets, age 81 of Yadkinville, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a battle with esophageal cancer. He was born April 28th 1941 in Forsyth County to Garland “Pete” Spencer Sheets Sr. and Effie Wooten Sheets. He fully embraced the Gospels later in life and was a member of Green Meadows Baptist Church. Richard served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a hobby farmer and raised a large garden every year. He also made and baled hay for horses and cows for his mother for decades, and he loved tinkering with all of his nine tractors. Richard spent his life working at Forsyth Hospital as a supervising engineer of maintenance, from 1967 to 2005. Most of all, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Richard will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his two twin sons, Stacey Sheets and Tracey Sheets; one grandson, Gavin Sheets; one brother, Garland Sheets Jr. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patsy Ellis Sheets; one daughter, Susan Gardener; two daughters-in-law, Mailea Sheets and Loretta Sheets; seven grandchildren, Amber Shoaf (Vic), Amanda Shoaf, Nathan Sheets (Miranda), Travis Sheets (Misty), Sawyer Sheets, Victoria Sheets, and Atticus Sheets; two great-grandsons, Waylon Sheets and Kyler Sheets; two siblings, Gary Sheets and Cindy Holder; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday February 27, 2023 at Green Meadows Baptist Church by Pastor Josh Greene. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by US Army National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Sunday February 26, 2023 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville, NC.
