Boggs Yadkinville- Mr. R.L. David Boggs, 94, passed away peacefully Monday, October 2, 2017 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born June 13, 1923 in Yadkin County to the late Carl and Alma Bolin Boggs. Mr. Boggs loved racing, bowling and golf. In his early years, he was active in racing with the Winston Cup, Grand National, and Grand American Sportsman Series with NASCAR. He was of the Baptist Faith, and was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. During his service, he was active in the D-Day invasion of Normandy and was the lone survivor from his plane after an explosion and crash caused from German artillery fire. Mr. Boggs was a Prisoner of War in the European Theater until his freedom was regained from a prisoner exchange. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Sue Filby and a brother, C.H. Boggs. Surviving are his son, David Ray Boggs, and wife, Kay of Rock Hill,S.C.; his former wife and mother of his children, Esther Virginia Boggs of Winston-Salem; 2 sisters, Pansy Webster and Alice Mae Lackey; 3 brothers, Robert Gray “Chick” Boggs, Walter Boggs, and Olin Boggs; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Boggs will be 11:00 AM Thursday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Dr. Robin Dixon, Sr. and Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346.
