Robert "Buster" Allen Harris

Hamptonville Mr. Robert “Buster” Harris departed this life Saturday, January 16, 2021 with complications from dementia at Carolina Pines of Greensboro. Buster was born in Union Grove, NC on October 5, 1941 to the late Rob Allen and Evelyn Vanhoy Harris. He lived in northern Iredell County until marrying in 1965 where he then moved to the Swan Creek community where he resided for over 50 years. Buster retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 30 years of service. He enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races. In the earlier years of retirement, Buster enjoyed traveling to various places with family and friends. In more recent years, he enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons and going on family vacations. In addition to his parents, Buster was preceded in death by a step-father, Thomas C. Holcomb; a brother-in-law, Leon Swaim & wife Harlene; beloved sister and friend, Betty Harris Gaither; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Reuben and Hazel Johnson Swaim. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy Swaim Harris; his son, Darren Harris and wife Jennifer; two grandsons, McKinley and Braeden Harris; a brother-in-law, Ned Gaither; a sister-in-law, Mildred (Johnny) Freeman; and several beloved nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00PM, Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Marler Road Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Daniel Settle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Harris will lie in state from 1:30 to 2:00PM prior to the service at the church. He will be available for public viewing Monday, Jan. 18th from 8:00AM to 5:00PM and Tuesday, Jan. 19th from 8:00AM to 12:00PM at Gentry Funeral Service in Jonesville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Marler Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 4433 Collins Rd, Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Thomasville Medical Center, Moses Cone Select Specialty, and Carolina Pines of Greensboro for their devoted care for Buster during his final days.
