Robert Gray Long

November 6, 1963 — July 12, 2017

Long Winston – Salem – Robert (Robbie) Gray Long, 53, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017. He was born November 6, 1963 in Yadkin County to Larry Ernest Long and Jane Elizabeth Long.  He was preceded in death by his father- in-law, Dr. Raymond Carr and brother-in-law, Jimmy Carr.  In addition to his parents, he is also survived by his wife, Barbara Carr Long. Children, Shannon (Nick) Ingram, Matthew (Mitzi) Reece and Martin (Christina) Cagle. Very special sister, Beverly Long who he adored. Mother-in-law, Anne Carr, who loved him as her own. Aunts and uncles, Nina Groce, Carlton and Patty Martin, James and Carolyn Long. Robbie married into a big, huge loving family that fell in love with him immediately, as did everyone who met him. His  in-laws include  Ray and Betsy Carr, Rob and Kim Carr, Kathy Carr (John), Laura and Sean Bond, Nancy and Ryan Puckett. Beth Hawks (Butter) was very special to Robbie, and he took great pride in giving her a hard time. The FNG is a group that Robbie and Barbara spent much time with. There were multiple trips, dinners, and more bike rides than can be counted. The FNG is made up  of Lee and Melanie Reavis, Michael and Lynn Berry, Tom and Sharon Mcquire , Juan and Haggith Montoya and  Richie Nance. There are more  nieces and nephews than can be named but he knew all their names and loved them all.  Robbie was an avid cyclist and much to his chagrin a pretty darn good runner too.  He had a perpetual smile that will never be forgotten. Robbie could build and repair anything and he spent his life working at Lomar in Yadkinville. Robbie is the  love of Barbara’s life and she was of his. Their commitment to each other never wavered. There are so many friends that will forever carry memories of Robbie. Please share them. A Celebration of Robbie’s Awesome Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2017( get your rides in cyclists,  for Robbie please) at Center United Methodist Church by the Rev. Matt Farabow and the Rev. Wallace Sills. Robbie had a deep faith and loved the Lord. Please pray for Robbie and all of us that love him. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service, at Center United Methodist Church.  After the service everyone is invited to a party at Tom and Sharon McGuire’s  home,  1880 Harper Rd, Clemmons , for refreshments and to celebrate the life of Robbie.  Memorials can be made to the donor’s choice. However, he particularly loved veterans, police officers, Firemen and health care workers for their dedication to serve others. In Robbie’s memory he would ask that you be kind to everyone, just as he was.  Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Long family.  Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
