Ronald Lee Honeycutt, age 78, passed away unexpectedly at Trinity Elms Health & Rehab on May 7, 2018. Ron was born on December 1, 1939 in Anson County. He graduated from Lilesville High School as valedictorian. He earned his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his Master’s Degree from Purdue University and served in the US Air Force. He retired from AT&T in 1995 where he worked as an electrical engineer. Ron had a quick wit and could laugh about most things. This was most true when dealing with his daughters through the trials and tribulations of their childhood and teenage years. He was a devoted Band Dad, teen driver trainer, and homework helper. You could find him wherever his girls were whether it be band competitions, recitals, or ball games. He procured a love of animals especially after his girls brought home an abundance of “stray” animals. When his grandchildren arrived, he quickly acquired the name, “Grumpy Grampy,” a title he held with pride. His greatest joy came when attending any event his grandchildren were a part of. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Ron was a beloved member of Lewisville United Methodist Church and deeply devoted to the church and mission work. He had a heart for The Red Bird Mission and Piedmont Emmaus Community. As his health declined, he still found ways to help the church by helping to maintain the church website and working on the bulletins. He was a true Wake Forest University fan and attended many basketball games over the years with Sue and his sister-in-law, Mary. He loved family game time and puzzle working as well as anything technology related. He leaves his family with countless memories of trips, family gatherings, a love of great music, and a legacy of laughter. Thanks to him we know the difference between a scorpion and a crawdad, how to break a water heater on a major holiday, and how to get lost in Kansas in the middle of the night. We also know how to love without hesitation, how to work hard, and how to laugh through the hard times because he did all of these things for each of us. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents Lee Roy and Margaret Honeycutt. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue Stowe Honeycutt. Three daughters, Lea Anne Thomas (Randy) of China Grove, Cara Hutchens (Bleu), of Yadkinville, and Vicki Perniciaro (Scott), of Gatlinburg, TN. Grandchildren: Davis Hutchens, Paiden Hutchens, Annalee Grace Thomas, Philip Thomas, Hope Thomas, Kristine Lyon, Kristopher Lyon, and Brittany Castle. Great grandchildren Max and Raya Baumann. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Trinity Elms for their kind and loving care. A public viewing will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 10:00 am at Lewisville United Methodist Church. Service of Celebration will be 10:30 am in the church sanctuary with burial in the church cemetery immediately following. Visitation will be 11:30 am- 12:30 pm in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to either Lewisville United Methodist Church for the Red Bird Mission Trip, 6290 Shallowford Rd., Lewisville, 27023 or Piedmont Emmaus Community, PO Box 4071, Greensboro, 27407. Rest well, my good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:21 Online condolences may be made to www.gentryfuneralservice.com. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the Honeycutt family.
