He was born July 26, 1948 in Webster City, Iowa to the late Robert Leland West and Arlene Pearl Frette. A veteran of the US Air Force, Ron served from 1966-1970 in Thailand and Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After completing his military service, he worked for several years with Sears Roebuck, Inc. as a service technician in Fort Lauderdale, FL. While a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale he served as the Nursery Director until he moved to Yadkinville, NC in 1987 with his family. Ron retired from the Truliant Federal Credit Union CUABS (Credit Union Auto Buyers Service) in 2013. Combining Ron’s love for dogs and woodworking he launched his own business, WestEnd Attic, making custom feeders for dogs and cats. He was loved and admired by the vending community, where he spent time as an artist selling his pet feeders.
Ron had an incredible talent to imagine, build, or fix anything. This ability led him to restore several houses in North Carolina as well as volunteering his time building and designing for the Clemmons Community Theater. While he was at New Hope Presbyterian Church of Clemmons he volunteered his time and efforts, especially with the Sound Abatement for worship services. As a member of Redeemer Yadkin Valley they have ministered to him in love and mercy until he succumbed to ALS. Ron was indispensable to all those who knew him. His willingness to share his wealth of knowledge with anyone who asked was invaluable. He was always ready to help neighbors, friends, or family members when in need.
Family was always important to Ron, and he stayed actively involved with the home schooling of his children.
