State Road Rev. Roy “Frank” Franklin Wooten, Jr., 77, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center. Frank was born June 3, 1945 in Surry County to Roy and Martha Brown Wooten. He was a member of Mining Ridge Baptist Church. He served as a choir director for 25 years, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and had been a pastor since 1991. Frank was a lifetime member of Broken Arrow Archery Club, Order of Purple Heart Association, and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the American Legion Post 336 in East Bend. Frank was a veteran of the US Army, having served during Vietnam from 1964 to 1969. He was wounded May 22, 1966 and still carried shrapnel from that wound. Frank always enjoyed fishing, hunting and shooting, but his greatest love was his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Pittman Wooten and his son-in-law, Chris Mitchell. He is survived by his two children, Alec (Sonya) Wooten and Karen Mitchell; grandchildren, Casey (Chano Tierrablanca, Sr.), Faith & Autumn Wooten, and Danielle (Donny) Holsclaw; great grandchildren, Lilly, Max, Shade, Asher, Scarlett, and Violett.; a sister, Jerry Underwood; and two brothers, Roger (Sharon) Wooten and Ronnie (Jeanie) Wooten. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Mining Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Longworth, Rev. Keith Wood and Pastor Josh Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by NC National Guard Honor Guard and Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00PM, prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yadkin VFW Post 10346, 4328 Wilhelm Road Boonville, NC 27011.
