Ruby Vestal Cook

Mocksville Mrs. Ruby Faye Vestal Cook, 87, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at her home. Ruby was born January 6, 1935 in Yadkin County to Israel Vestal and Esther Vestal Money. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. Ruby was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Sgt. Robert J. Cook; sisters, Irene Hooker, Patty Payne, Jean Vestal, and Shirley Durham; brothers, her twin Arthur Vestal and Leonard Vestal; and several nieces and nephews. Ruby is survived by her children, David Lee (Tammy) Cook, Lorraine (Kenneth) Calloway, and Emily (Sammy) Mitchell; grandchildren, Telitha Cook, Leah Cox, Luke & Kelly Calloway, Travis Estes, Tara Lunsford, and Cain Mitchell; great grandchildren, Caleb & Makayla Benfield, Shelby Estes, Lydia Cox, Bryan Calloway, Elizabeth Estes, and Tatum Lunsford; brother, Howard (Bonnie) Vestal; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Ruby spent her last few years with her son David and his wife Tammy. A special thanks to her granddaughter Leah Cox who diligently took care of her grandma until the end. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with Rev. David Kiser and Rev. Howard Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow at Sandy Springs Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road Statesville, NC 28625 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Iredell for the loving care provided to Ruby.
