Samuel “Gary” Owen 79, passed away on July 30th, 2017. He was the husband of Kay Owen, sharing 57 years of marriage. Born June 21st, 1938, to Samuel P. and Clara N. Owen. Gary retired from RJ Reynolds after 36 years and was a veteran of the US Army. In retirement, he found a passion for providing the community with organic produce at Old Salem’s Cobblestone Market. He was fortunate to have traveled the country as well as abroad and hunted often. He is survived by his wife, daughters Annette(Gray) Saylor and Melanie O. Snincsak; three grandchildren who were the light of his life Kaitlynn (Lindsey Cole) Snincsak, Alexander Saylor and Sarah Snincsak; his brother Tommy (Sandra) Owen, sister Sandra (Donald) Kieffer; his brother and sister in laws Teddy (Shirley) Angell, Albert (Margaret) Angell, Linda Angell; his special fishing and canasta partner Barry(Betty) Luper; his travel friends Bill (Elaine) Stewart, and gardening friends Harvey (Susan) Moser and his beloved canine friends Rose and Noel. He is preceded in death by his infant daughter, brother and sister in law Clayton and Nell B. Owen. The graveside service will be held on Friday August 4th at 6pm at New Home Methodist Church. A family visitation will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall; the family requests casual attire. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations to The Gary Owen Memorial Agricultural Education Fund to be made at any BB&T branch.
