Shelvie Gregory Creed

July 16, 1937 — March 7, 2025

Shelvie G. Creed, 87, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born July 16, 1937, in Yadkin County, to the late Lee Gwyn Gregory and Vella Sparks Gregory. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Clarence Hutchens, two brothers, LG Gregory and Hubert Gregory, two sisters, Margie Gregory and Jane Hutchens Bradshaw, and a son-in-law, Tony Hayes.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Homer J. Creed; one son, Bobby J. Lynch (Rosie), and two daughters, Rebecca Hayes and Pattie Fields; grandchildren, Jody Lynch (Tracia), Melissa Hill (Aaron), Landon Lynch (Angie), Shawn Kelly (Jessica), Thomas Hayes (Jenna), and Tiffany Autwell (Matt); great grandchildren, Kaylen Fields, Brevan McAlpin, Layla Hale, Kayden Taylor (special friend Garrett Freeland), Olivia Lynch, Isaiah Hill (special friend Madison Ketchie), Kinley Horrocks, Elijah Hill, Aiden Autwell, Noah Kidd, and Owen Lynch; great great grandchildren, Tanner and Asher; two brothers, James Gregory (Verna) and Locksley Hutchens; and a beloved niece, Brenda Gregory, and several other special nieces and nephews.

Shelvie graduated from high school in 1955. She took several classes during her working career at Forsyth Tech and Surry Community College. She retired from Yadkin County ASCS Office, a branch of the USDA, in 1992 with 35 years of service. After retirement, she and Homer enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and babysitting their great grandson, Isaiah, beginning at 10 days old. Shelvie was a loving mother and grandmother. She was always there for her family. She was a wonderful cook and loved making cookies for her grandchildren and pies and cakes for Homer and her children. Shelvie was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church, since 1991, and was involved in many of the church functions and activities. Shelvie will surely be missed by all her family.

The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Kevin and all the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice Home in Yadkinville for being so caring and loving to Shelvie and the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice Home in Yadkinville are encouraged. The family will be holding a visitation Sunday, March 9th, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:30PM and a service will take place following the visitation at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Interment will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral service.
