Shirley May Brown

Shirley Hudspeth Brown, 88, went to be home with her Lord and Savior on February 3rd 2025. She was born on April 27th 1936 to the late John and Pearl Hudspeth. Shirley was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church until she couldn’t get out and go anymore. She was a loving person who loved her Jesus and family. Her whole life she was a homemaker except when she helped friends in greenhouses and tobacco fields. Shirley loved gardening and being outdoors. She loved to sit on her breezeway and watch traffic go by. She was lucky enough to live close to her daughter Kathy (Grayland) and granddaughter April (Andy) and she would always know when a FedEx or UPS truck would go to deliver packages to them. Shirley loved to play with her great grandchildren, whether it was outside on the swing or sitting on the floor playing with any and all toys. She was the absolute best Mawmaw/Grannie that anyone could ever have. 

In addition to her parents, Shirley was is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years Jacob (Jake) Brown, brothers; Paul, Charles, Bill, and Hugh Hudspeth, and sisters; Annie Cook, Etta Wall, Hazel Hudspeth, and Fannie Polizzotto. She is survived by her daughters; Mary Jane (Steve) Sherrill, and Kathy (Grayland) Wagoner, grandchildren; Scott (Brittany) Sherrill, Julie (Adam) Eary, and April (Andy) Hembree, great-grandchildren; Turner, Miles, and Holt Sherrill, Brooklynn and Charlotte Hembree. She is also survived by a sister; Jane Perkins.The family would like to extend their appreciation to Shirley’s nurse and CNA Sonya and Jamie for their loving care and support. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Libby Harrison for the care she provided for Shirley. A funeral service to honor Shirley’s life will be held Saturday, February 8th 2025 at 2:00 PM at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Benfield officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family an hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church.
