Shirley Vanhoy

Hamptonville

Shirley J. Vanhoy ( born on March 11, 1940 – April 30, 2023) was born in Akron, Ohio and raised in Denver, Colorado. She wed Darrell Vanhoy in 1959 and moved to Hamptonville NC.  Their son Jeffrey Scott Vanhoy was born June 2, 1962 and their daughter Janet Suzanne Vanhoy December 28, 1968.  Jamie Christine Vanhoy, granddaughter was born March 18, 1985. All have preceded her in death.  During her high school years, Shirley was an avid roller skater and won the state championship. In the 1960's and 70's she was a member of the Yadkin Ski Club and performed water ballet among other competitions.  She worked a series of positions in the textile industry at Hanes Hosiery, Unifi and Sara Lee.  Later in life she worked in childcare and eldercare. Shirley loved everyone unconditionally, always present with a smile and a kind word.   She enjoyed reading, being outside and helping others.  Working in the yard or garden, canning fruits and veggies, raking leaves, painting and washing windows. No matter the task, you could always count on her to be there. Shirley was a faithful member of Mountain View Baptist Church. A graveside service has been planned for Saturday May 13th at 2pm at Mountain View.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to Mountain View Baptist Church Building Fund.
