Susan Kay Simmons

Yadkinville - Miss Susan Kay Simmons, 71, died peacefully Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Yadkin Nursing Center in Yadkinville. She was born in Yadkin County March 23, 1953 to the late Mr. LeRoy Simmons and Mrs. Thelma Gough Simmons.

Susan was inherently kind, loving, and saw the best in everyone. Her joyful laugh would fill a room, and it was hard not to be lighter and happier in her company. She was passionate about jigsaw puzzles, word searches, music, painting, rugmaking, faithfully sending birthday cards and North Carolina barbecue. Susan was an ardent NC State Wolfpack basketball fan and a longtime member of Harmony Grove Friends Meeting, where she especially enjoyed serving in the choir. She later was a beloved member of the Bethelview Methodist Church in Boone. 

Susan loved her family dearly and was a cherished daughter, sister and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Simmons Carroll. She is survived by sisters Carolyn Simmons Smitherman and Martha Simmons Jessup; brothers-in-law Thomas Smitherman, Larry Carroll, and Dennis Jessup; three nieces, three nephews, and several great-nieces and -nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with burial to follow at Harmony Grove Friends Cemetery. Dr. Harold Salmons and Dr. Robin Dixon will officiate. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 pm on Saturday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Yadkin Nursing Center and Liberty Hospice for all the loving care given to Susan.
