Ted Adams, Jr.

Ted Adams, Jr., 71 passed away at his home in Campobello, SC. Ted had been fighting a chronic illness for nearly a year and fought a hard battle. He was born in Warren County, North Carolina on June 4, 1947, the son of the late Ted Adams and Faye Adelaide Blackburn Adams. Ted was raised at the family farm in Jonesville, North Carolina and graduated from Elkin High School in 1967.  He attended University of North Carolina-Charlotte, receiving a bachelor’s degree.  Ted spent most of his career working as a computer engineer for data storage companies including Memorex and ultimately retired from EMC. Ted also started his own company, “Upstate Computer Service”, in 1991.   He had many diverse interests and could talk on a wide range of topics. He enjoyed talking about politics, news, religion and telling stories of his younger days (“the good ole days”), as he would say. After retiring from EMC, Ted enjoyed “piddling” at his home.  He enjoyed gardening, canning, working on his cars, traveling, creating homemade contraptions that he was very proud of, but most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Fox News, RFD TV, NASCAR, and Jimmy Swaggert.  He enjoyed listening to Gospel music, and old favorites from the 60’s.  His dog, Sassy, was a great companion and gave Ted great pleasure and enjoyment in his last months. Survivors include his daughter, Becky Adams Spencer (Mark); and son, Michael Adams (Kara) (both the children of his former wife Linda Adams Vestall); step daughter, Shawntay Smith; and four grandchildren: Lacey Danielle Blackwell, Max Taylor Adams, Rylee Faye Adams and Shaylea Emma-Bell Smith.  Ted lived and died as a Christian. He was a loving father and grandfather, a friend to everyone, and will be greatly missed. A funeral service was held on Monday, January 14, 2019 2:00 pm at Gentry Family Funeral Chapel in Jonesville with the Rev. Stephen Evans officiating. Burial followed in Hollywood Cemetery in Elkin, NC.
