Thomas Bennett "Benny" Steelman

Mr. Thomas Bennett “Benny” Steelman, 86, of Boonville, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021 at his home. He was born July 10, 1935 in Yadkin County to the late Arlie and Edith Combs Steelman.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Steelman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Colene Kimmer Steelman and by a grandson, James Steelman.  Mr. Steelman was a veteran of the US Army.  He was the well-known owner and operator of Boonville Home Furnishings for several years.  Mr. Steelman was a faithful member of Boonville Baptist Church and served the church as a Deacon and Sunday School Director, was an active member of the Boonville Jaycees and Boonville Volunteer Fire Department earlier in his life.  He was a loving husband, wonderful father and loved his grandchildren.  He is survived by his children, Danette (Keith) Steelman-Bridges, Janene (Matthew) Steelman-Dolge, James Shannon (Tracie) Steelman, and Amara (Tim) Steelman-White; his grandchildren, Joshua (Valentina) Bridges, Mark Bridges, Stephen Bridges, Andrew Dolge, Christopher Dolge, Kaleigh (Connor) Vanhoy, Laken (Zach) Freed, Houston Steelman, Jessica (Seth) Walton, Brittany White, and Kennedy-Grace White, and Rylan White; four great-grandchildren, Emma Bridges, Bryce & Kinsley Vanhoy, and Piper Freed; and 3 sisters, Nell Norman, Linda (Jack) Crissman, and Jenny (Kenneth) Carter.  The family would also like to express their gratitude to his special  caregivers, Nellie Harris, Cathy Sparks, Shannon Zickafoose, Kim Allison, Alice Watts, and Christy Martin.   A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Boonville Baptist Church by Rev. John Brown and Rev. Larry Thompson.  Mr. Steelman will lie in-state from 10:00-11:00 AM Tuesday before the service at the church.  Interment will follow the service in Boonville Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and his family available to receive friends after the committal in the cemetery.  He will also be available for public viewing during the day Monday from 8-5 PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  The family requests that all attendants to the service in the church please wear appropriate masks while inside.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 243 North Lee Ave. Yadkinville, NC  27055.   Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Steelman family.
