"Toby" Roy Lee Byrd

Hamptonville Mr. “Toby” Roy Lee Byrd, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center.  Mr. Byrd was born January 24, 1933 in Wilkes County to the late Lee Roy and Margie Colbert Byrd.  He was a member of Swaims Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War.  In his younger days, Toby enjoyed singing, playing golf, and taking tomatoes to all of his friends and neighbors.    Mr. Byrd is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Della Rose Newman Byrd; two daughters, Tyanne (Ron) Tabor and Tracy (David) Cook; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Jamie) Phillips, Abby Jones, and Dustin Sloop (Megan Payne); four great grandchildren, Andrew, Tyra, and Jaylon Jones and Bryson Phillips; one sister, Lois (Ronnie) Macy; and one brother, Robert Colbert. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00PM, Sunday April 22, 2018 at Gentry Family Chapel in Jonesville with Rev. Roger Groce and Rev. Jerry Shelton officiating.  Burial will follow at Swaims Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and NC National Guard Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00PM, prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Swaims Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3919 Swaims Church Road Hamptonville, NC 27020.
