Boonville- Mr. Tommy Jay Hutchens, 84, of East Main Street passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 21, 2025. He was born December 4, 1940 in Yadkin County to the late Ray and Nancy Steelman Hutchens. Mr. Hutchens was a veteran of the US Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He worked for several years as a mechanic with John Deere Tractor, Holcomb Equipment, the Town of Boonville, and lastly with YVEDDI. Mr. Hutchens attended Boonville Baptist Church and Charity Baptist Church through the years, and always enjoyed any time he could spend outside, especially with his family either hunting or fishing. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Gay Nichols Hutchens; by his brothers, Larry Hutchens, Albert Hutchens, Kenneth Hutchens; and by his sister-in-law, Susan Hutchens . Surviving are his son, Jay Hutchens and wife, Paulette of Mocksville; 2 grandchildren, Jarette Austin Hutchens (Katherine), Lissa Paige Hutchens Barnes-Baker (Zac); 4 great-grandchildren, Kayden Donathan, Kylie Hutchens, Jayce Hutchens, Hadley Barnes; a sister, Ruth Hutchens Smith; 2 brothers, Donald Hutchens, Johnny Hutchens; and sisters-in-law, Pat Hutchens and Barbara Hutchens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His Memorial Service will follow the visitation at 2 PM Friday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Brian Chilton. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice of Yadkinville.
