Velma Lou Elmes Halsey

Hamptonville-  Mrs. Velma Lou Elmes Halsey passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at her home.  She was born in Franklin County, Pa. to the late Harry & Dorothy Smith Elmes.  Mrs. Halsey retired with over 20 years of service working at Yadkin Plaza Family Restaurant.  She enjoyed writing poetry and crocheting blankets that she would donate to Mountain Valley Hospice.  Mrs. Halsey was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church where she served the church faithfully as the choir leader for several years.  She loved music and had a beautiful, strong voice for singing with the choir, as a soloist, or gathering around with her family during special times.  Surviving are her beloved husband of 28 years, Ronald Halsey, of the home; step-son, Michael Halsey and wife, Melissa, and their family; her son, David and wife, Terrie Bingaman; Jason Bingaman; daughter, Tammy Bingaman Jones, and husband, Chris; Pennie Brown, and husband, Eric; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several loving cousins including, Wanda Bollinger, Shelby Elmes Colble, Sandy Greenwalt, Dorothy K Elmes Martin, Kathy Elmes Clough, Timmy Elmes, and Tommy Elmes.  Mrs. Halsey will be available for public viewing from 8 AM to 1 PM Sunday January 3, 2021.  The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:30 PM Sunday at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.  Her funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:30 PM Sunday in the Gentry Family Chapel by Rev. Benny Adams and her son, David Bingaman.  Interment will follow in Maranatha Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family requests that for those attending to observe social distance and wearing of masks.
