Velma Lauten Matthews

Velma Lauten Matthews, 92, of East Bend passed away on August 4 2022 at Yadkin Nursing Center. She was born December 13, 1929, a daughter of the late Willie and Ida Mae Lauten of Kernersville. Velma was a faithful member of Prospect United Methodist Church.  

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charlie L. Matthews. Surviving are her children: Brian Matthews (Linda), Mark Matthews (Melissa), Susan King (Larry), and Lisa Gillan (John); grandchildren Creighton Angst (Brad), Wesley Matthews (Laura),  Will Matthews, Charlie Matthews, Sara Matthews, Caroline Gillan, and Jackson Gillan; great grandchildren Townes Angst, Charlotte Angst, and Redford Matthews; sisters Hallene Brindle and Shirley Lauten. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.  

A funeral service will be held at Prospect United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 12:00 noon with Dr. Lauren Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3541 Smithtown Rd, East Bend, NC 27018 or SECU Hospice Care Center, Yadkinville, NC 20755.
