Jonesville Mrs. Velma Gay Kimmer (Mama Gay) Wagoner, 85, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Yadkin Nursing Center. Mrs. Wagoner was born September 28, 1933 in Yadkin County to Melvin and Hester Mosteller Kimmer. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wagoner was preceded in death by her first husband, George Lee Shore; her second husband, Claude Harold Wagoner; and her siblings, Hazel Evans, Doris Shore, Howard Kimmer, Mozelle Hall, James Kimmer, Vermell Kimmer, and Colene Steelman. She is survived by her five children, Christine (Randy) Bryant, Carolyn “Pinkey” (Ray) DuBose, Pam (Eddie) Parker, Claudette (Chubby) Cave, and Daryl (Robbin) Wagoner; grandchildren, Laura (David) Nixon, John (Connie) Joines, Christopher DuBose, Carla Cave, Presley Wagoner, Jordan Wagoner, Julie Parker, and Joshua (Elizabeth) Parker; great grandchildren, Logan (Cierra) Nixon, Dawson Nixon, Cole Nixon, Caleb Joines, Gabriela Joines, Charlie Parker, and Virginia Parker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wagoner graduated from Jonesville High School and was employed by Hanes Manufacturing, Sunbeam, and Share a Home. She was a hard worker her entire life she could be found sewing clothes for her children, canning and freezing food from her garden, or tending to her grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting with her special friends "The Sisters of the Skillet." Cheering for the Carolina Tar Heels, Atlanta Braves, and the various teams that her children and grandchildren were a part of put a smile on her face. Monthly Sunday dinners at her house were always enjoyed, especially when she cooked her delicious chicken pie. Every child and grandchild felt special when she would bake their favorite cake for their birthdays. A faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, she was active in the choir, WMU, served as a Sunday School teacher, and chaperoned the youth group to Camp Caswell. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be missed by family and loved ones; however, we are comforted in knowing she is home with her Heavenly Father. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30pm, Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30pm prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to (Lottie Moon Christmas or Annie Armstrong Easter Funds at Shady Grove Baptist Church, 3808 Center Road, Boonville, NC 27011 The family wants to extend special thanks to Yadkin Nursing Care Center for the excellent care, love, and support to our Mother and our family.
