Wayne Franklin Vestal

Wayne Franklin Vestal, born May 24, 1934, passed peacefully Wednesday morning, October 11, 2018 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was the only son of Dale and Cora Benton Vestal who, along with his two sisters, Martha Ellen and Mary Ann, preceded him in death. Wayne was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Wayne was a lifelong farmer who loved John Deere tractors and equipment. He retired from Unifi. He was a simple man who loved his family, sitting on his front porch and his “chew”. He was the “checker champion” at Yadkin Nursing Center. Wayne is survived by his wife, Lois Sue Wagoner Vestal, of the home. He had four loving children: Debbie Combs, Janet Augustine (John Burton), Kenneth (April) Vestal and Sandra (Drew) Blaha; 8 grandchildren whom he was very proud of and loved very much: Allison (Joseph) Augustine Vincell, Adam (Casey) Combs, Noah Jake Vestal, David (Tracy) Vestal, Anne Hayley Combs, Jonathan Blaha, Michael Blaha, and Patrick Blaha; 7 great-grandchildren: James, Susan and Nathaneal Vincell, Carson Vestal, Dash Foster, Leif and Milah Combs. The family will receive friends at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 6 to 8pm. Funeral services will be held at Shady Grove Baptist Church 3808 Center Road, Boonville, NC 27011 on Monday, October 15, at 11 am with Rev. Brian Thompson and Rev. Paul Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shady Grove Baptist Church Building Fund 3808 Center Rd. Boonville, NC 27011. The family would like to thank Dr. James McGrath for years of caring and the staff of Yadkin Nursing Center for their compassionate care of Wayne during the last 10 weeks.  Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville is serving the Vestal family.
