YadkinvilleGray Holcomb, 64, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 20, 2017 at his brother’s home. He was born April 26, 1953 in Surry County to Weaver and Ruby Wiles Holcomb. In addition to his parents, Gray was preceded in death by a step father, James Henderson; and a brother, Dallas “Bill” Holcomb. He is survived by his brother, Stonie (Linda) Holcomb; step sister, Janice (Ernest) Galliher; nephews, Nathan Holcomb, Scotty Holcomb; Jamie (Dacia) Holcomb; and Ben (Kristen) Holcomb; nieces, Holly McCann and Courtney Holcomb. Gray was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the Atlanta Braves and the UNC Tarheels. He enjoyed playing golf, working crossword puzzles, playing Jeopardy, and watching ESPN. He really enjoyed going to his mother’s house every Sunday morning until his illness and her passing for her good Momma’s country breakfast. Gray retired from WestRock in 2015 where he made many friends. The family wishes to express a sincere appreciation to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the wonderful care these past few months. This includes Melinda Cockerham, Chaplain Mark Brown, Penny Boyd, Marty Driver, Holly Hodges, and many others. Gray said before his passing he was the happiest he had been in 20 years staying with his brother and sister-in-law. He loved for his great nieces Aubrey and Millie to come talk and sing to him and bring him snacks in bed the last few months. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
