Wilburn Leo "Boonie" Whitman

Wilburn Leo “Boonie” Whitman, Jr., 88, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021. He was born November 19, 1932 in Forsyth County to the late Wilburn Leo Whitman and Nedra Newsome Whitman.  Mr. Whitman served in the US Air Force. He enjoyed spending time with his family, flying model airplanes, and riding Harleys. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Syble Anne Webb Whitman; sister Dottie Whitman. Surviving are a son Andy (Donna) Whitman; a daughter Amy Neal; grandchildren Amanda (Lee) Bailey, Andrew (Hannah) Whitman Maria (Jordan) McCarn, Kevin Leo Neal; great grandchildren Addie Bailey, Owen Bailey. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Forbush Friends Cemetery by Rev. Mitchell See and Rev. Ray Lamb, with Full Military Honors by the US Air Force Honor Guard and VFW Post 10346. The family would like to say a very special thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the loving care given to Mr. Whitman.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Forbush Friends or College Park backpack ministry for the hungry kids. Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend is serving the Whitman family.
