Mr. William Glen Hardy (affectionally known as Bill), passed away at his home on June 8, 2018 after an extended illness. Bill was born on May 24, 1941 to the late Glen Martin and Ruth Hutchens Hardy in the community of Richmond Hill, East Bend, NC He attended Fall Creek Elementary through the 8th grade and graduated from East Bend High School in 1959. Bill was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 30.4 years of service. He was also Mayor of the Town of East Bend for 16 years. Bill was a faithful member of East Bend United Methodist Church where he held numerous positions until his health declined. He was a member of the East Bend Volunteer Fire Department retiring with 30 years of service; the East Bend Senior/Community Center where he delivered meals for several years, and was a member of the East Bend Ruritan Club. First and foremost he loved his wife, two daughters, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Bill was an avid hunter of quail and pheasant and loved to fish. He enjoyed his many trips to Iowa pheasant hunting. He and Anne enjoyed their trips to the mountains and having lunch on the Blue Ridge Parkway and their many trips to Holmes County, Ohio visiting the Amish country. He also enjoyed commercial and church league softball and was a slow-pitch knuckleball pitcher for various softball leagues. Bill loved to watch the Atlanta Braves. While he is no longer with us on this earth, the love and memories we are left with stay with us forever. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anne Matthews Hardy of the home and two daughters Donna Hardy (Frank) Williams and Cathy Hardy (Steve) Kirk, five grandchildren, Landon J. Williams and fiance’ Ruth Partridge; Morgan (Cody) Miller, Bailey Suzanne Williams, Holly (Brian) Reavis, Stephanie (Darren) Todd, Great-Grandchildren Luna Williams and Hayden, Austin, and Ty Reavis. Also left to cherish his memory are one sister Mary Ruth (Richard) Thomas, two brothers Jim (Judy) Hardy and Eddie (Linda) Hardy and a special cousin Linda Adams Angell, along with many special nieces and nephews. 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 3:00 PM at East Bend United Methodist Church with Rev. David Blackenberg and Dr. Kim Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the East Bend Friends Cemetery. The family will receive from 1:00PM-3:00PM Monday, June 11, 2018 prior to the funeral service.
