William Crawford Pettyjohn

East Bend – William “Crawford” Pettyjohn, 84, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024.  He was born June 26, 1939 in Yadkin County to the late Robert William Pettyjohn and Florence Wilhelm Pettyjohn.

Crawford was a 1957 graduate of Boonville High School.   After 30 years of service, he retired from RJR Packaging.  Crawford was a devoted member at East Bend Friends Church.  His favorite contribution was when he felt a call to start recording the Sunday services and special programs for the shut-ins.  He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to farm.  He also loved watching the Atlanta Braves and was a long time Wake Forest Women’s Basketball season ticket holder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his adored grandmother, Clementine “Tina” Wilhelm; special uncle and aunt Floyd and Irene Wilhelm.  He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Shelby Money Pettyjohn; children, Lynn Pettyjohn, Lisa Williams, Lori Pettyjohn; granddaughter, Erica Williams; brother, Arlis (Faye) Pettyjohn; special “sibling” cousins, Homer (Rosa) Wilhelm, Annette Burcham, Rosa Emma Honeycutt, Howard (Sandra) Wilhelm, and Carolyn (Sammy) Burton; and his church family at East Bend Friends.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 6, 2024 at East Bend Friends Church by the Rev. Marty Wood, the Rev. Randy Johnson, Dr. Rex Walker, and the Rev. Denise Henry.  Burial will follow at church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2024 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend.  The family would like to thank Trinity Elms Health and Rehab for all the love and care shown to Crawford, as well as to special family and bonus daughter, Casey Conner for her steadfast love and support.  Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend is serving the Pettyjohn family.  Online condolences can be made at www.gentryfuneralservice.com.
