William Asbury Royall, 94, of Boonville, passed away at Woltz Hospice Home on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
He was born on January 18, 1928 to the late Miles Sheliah and Flora Elsie Royall. He was also preceded in death by his devoted sisters, Edith, Olean, and Edna, and loving brothers, Hubert, Charles, Clifford, and Bobby.
Surviving are his daughters, Flora Jane “Janie” Royall and Rita Presley; son William Asbury “Dude” Royall, Jr.; brother, Danny (Judy) Royall; Ginger “Shug” Smith, who became the light of his life; grandchildren, Shayna Reavis, Joanie, and John; and five great-grandchildren.
William was an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper, and gardener. The joy and passion of his life was his Deep Creek Beagles. His greatest accomplishments were raising and training field trial beagles. His expertise in training his dogs produced numerous field champions while traveling up and down the east coast. He won many trophies and ribbons, including the 1992 Purina Award, which was presented to him in Annapolis, Maryland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a military policeman.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Center United Methodist Church cemetery with Dr. Charlie Kennedy and Danny Royall officiating. Full military honors will be presented at the graveside service. Mr. Royall will lie-in-state from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the funeral home.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Mr. Royall’s caregivers, Shug, Nancy Walls, Susan Pettit, and Cathy Sparks, and Woltz Hospice Home for the loving care given to Mr. Royall and his family. Additionally, the family sends heartfelt thanks to Dr. William “Bill” Applegate for his loving care, phone calls, visit, and support. They would also like to thank Dr. Carlyle Hamsher and his nurse, Kim, for all their care and for the many phone calls. William loved all three of you!
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
