Ruth Holleman Casstevens

December 17, 1934 — December 22, 2021

Ruth Holleman Casstevens peacefully passed away on December 22, 2021 at the age of 87.

She was born on December 17, 1934 to the late Isaac Holleman and Rachel Haire Holleman in Jonesville, North Carolina where she resided throughout her life.

Ruth was married to George Casstevens on July 17, 1952. They were married for 61 years and had two children, David Gregory Casstevens and Sherrie Casstevens Randleman.

Ruth worked in the binding and rest warmer departments at Chatham Manufacturing Company for 50 years.  After retirement, some of her favorite things to do were mowing the yard and working in her flowers.  Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she adored.

Ruth was known for her witty sense of humor and love of sweets. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be forever remembered and terribly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George David Casstevens; sisters Emma Parks, Dot Williams, Modene Snow, and Lorene Mendenhall; and her brother Dewitt Holleman. She is survived by her son David Casstevens (Pam) and daughter Sherrie Casstevens Randleman (Sandy); grandchildren Ashley Randleman Chazanow (Matthew), Seth Randleman, Kaelea Lowrance (Joseph), Jayna-Beth Dinkins (Matt) and Ashlyn Kimrey; great-grandchildren, who she liked to give nicknames, Liam “Limbo” Lowrance, Nathan “Smiley Jack” Chazanow and Kolsen “Suntan Baby” Lowrance, Mady Kimrey, Gracie Dinkins and Levi Dinkins; granddog - Cooper, her loyal golden retriever, who she loved to feed; many special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Ruth’s wonderful caregivers for all of their grace and support: Paulette Norman, Thelma Martin, Christy Martin and all of the providers, nurses and nursing assistants at Mountain Valley Hospice in Yadkinville, NC.

Special thanks to Edna Holleman who provided Ruth with numerous, delicious meals over the years.
